From Patient to Doctor

Interestingly, Dr. Singh completed his MBBS from the same hospital (KGMC) where he was once a patient. He was motivated by the powerful image of the doctors he observed during his time in the hospital. Coming from a humble background, with both parents being school principals, his dream of being addressed as a “Doctor” fueled his journey.

Family Values Shaped His Career

Born in a Sikh family in Lucknow, Dr. Singh contracted polio due to not receiving the vaccine. He attributes his success to the values instilled by his parents, and despite his accomplishments, he believes there is much more he needs to achieve in life.

A Brush with IAS

In 1993-94, Dr. Singh cleared the IAS prelims but missed the mains by a few marks. During coaching in Delhi, he was advised that his disability might limit his roles in the IAS, restricting him to non-field positions like audit and accounts. Realizing that the IAS wasn’t meant for him, he pivoted towards healthcare, a field where he could make a more significant impact.

Business Mindset

Dr. Singh’s entrepreneurial mindset was sparked while working at his family’s small business, which included a PCO, photocopy shop, and ice cream parlor. This early experience gave him a foundation for business thinking.

Seeing the World Through a Positive Lens

Dr. Singh believes people tend to notice the flaws in others before recognizing their strengths. He faced initial difficulties finding a private job due to his disability, but today, his company employs over 200 people. He always embraced challenges and even achieved world records by crossing Khardung La on a bike and scuba diving.

Disability as a Blessing

Rather than being troubled by his disability, Dr. Singh is thankful to God. He believes that while God may take something away, He compensates by giving much more in return. The key, according to Dr. Singh, is recognizing the opportunities that come our way and using them to better our lives.

The Decision to Leave Government Job

He cites an important life lesson: “If you choose the hard path, life will be easier; if you choose the easy path, life will be harder.”

Hard-Work Leads to Sucess
